Play65 has realized that the best way to encourage players to make a progress and improve their backgammon game is by giving them positive feedbacks. Competitiveness is primary aimed towards our own achievements and only then we measure ourselves in comparison to others. This understanding has driven Play65 team to develop the new Achievements feature, which will help you discover yours latent ambitions.

Play65 has defined a long list of backgammon goals for its players to inspire to, which do not necessarily involve winning matches or backgammon tournaments. Reaching any of the achievements credits the player with a prize; of course the value of the prize is determined by the difficulty level of the specific backgammon achievement. The new feature is divided into two main categories:

· Daily Achievements - Can be reached daily.

· Lifetime Achievements - These are harder goals to achieve, and you will be credited for completing them only once.

In addition to the actual prize, Play65 has created a unique personal Trophies Room, in which your achievements are presented in the shape of trophies and medals. You may view your own progress, as well as check other players’ backgammon achievements, by entering these magnificent virtual rooms. For further explanations and detailed information check the Achievements page.

Another happy annunciation is the launch of a brand new backgammon tournament, played for prize pool of $5000 with $1400 as first prize. The new backgammon tournament is held twice a month, every second Sunday, and is open for all Play65’s players, whether they play backgammon for money or just for fun. In order to learn more about the $5000 tournament’s conditions and qualifications click here.

And a small matter of formality for those of you, who wonder, where Premium Play has vanished. Well, it has not disappeared; it was simply renamed and now it is presented as Virtual Money Backgammon.

In the last two months it has introduced play65 community members with three exciting innovations that tremendously enhance the comfort, the thrill and the motivation of backgammon players. These improvements approach different aspects of the backgammon game experience; and are offered to all gamers, regardless their rating level and their favorite mode of play.

Premium Play is a revolutionary mode of play, which combines the serenity of the fun, free play that risks nothing and is all about having a good time with this challenging game with the thrill and the ‘walking on the edge’ experience of the real money backgammon mode.
play65’s way to integrate those two contrasting modes was to create a brand new virtual backgammon world, where virtual money is used, advanced new rating system and ranking ladder are operated and many other brand new features and benefits are available to the subscribers; private statistics, games history, longer matches and higher bets, leader boards, backgammon online school and more.
There is a small subscription fee (around $2 a month, depends on the subscription period you register to), which is negligible, especially considering the new prized tournament, premium play players may attend to. Are you curious to learn more about Premium Play? Click here for full the review.

Play65’s VIP club is among our unique services and benefits we provide our loyal players with. The VIP club was initially established for the favor of real money backgammon players that spend much of their spare time with us. Nevertheless, we have decided we would love to give the more moderate players, of fun and money modes, the opportunity to taste the pleasure of being a part of an exclusive club, which credits its members with luxuries as special tournaments, shopping points and even a personal account manager.
Play65 has launched new routine daily and weekly tournaments, in which finalists get one month free membership in the beneficial VIP club. Click here for additional information.

Instant Playis the newest improvement of them all, which was developed in order to facilitate the technical procedure of downloading the software; as well as to allow Mac users to enjoy Play65’s backgammon online adventure.
Instant Play is a web application that does not require any software installation and is friendlier, easier and much faster to deal with.
The interface, game rooms and features are identical to the ones in the downloadable version. The only thing a player should do in order to play backgammon online, is to go through a brief one-time registration and login; players who already have a Play65 account do not need to register again; thus they can login and start playing with no additional delays. So, once you’ve registered, all you need is to login from any PC or Mac computer, which has internet access and join a table.
It should be noted that Instant Play does not support money backgammon mode, and is available for premium play and free players only.

Backgammon was the first game in which an experimental computer defeated the world champion (though in that case, the winner was simply luckier); later it was chess, and now even trivia experts are not immunes. IBM’s AI creation, Watson, has defeated two Jeopardy! record breakers in a special exhibition match of the TV game show.

Despite failing to locate Toronto on the map, the supercomputer won the $1,000,000 first prize in the two-part show aired yesterday, while his strong opponents, 74-time Jeopardy! champion, Ken Jennings, and the biggest all-time money winner in Jeopardy!, Brad Rutter, took only $300,000 and $200,000 each. Watson’s prize will be obviously donated by IBM to selected charities.

Watson’s knowingness of Paris Hilton filmography

Anyway, Jeopardy! is not Watson’s last stop. As IBM’s first successful foothold in the world of backgammon computers, TD-Gammon, was developed as an experiment in temporal learning, Watson’s superior data mining abilities can become useful for higher purposes such as medical diagnoses.

Backgammon was not the same after backgammon computers became accessible commercially. Backgammon prodigies were forced to share their glory, and probably their gambling gains, with technophile students of the game, and all had to bow before the true geniuses of the game – GNU, Snowie and the others. But how would Watson’s victory affect on the future of television quiz shows?

This live backgammon event does not only celebrates the Play65/EBGT season opening, but also the 10th anniversary of the World Backgammon Association, the backgammon organization that is responsible for organizing some of the biggest and richest live events of the past decade including the four past seasons of the European Backgammon Tour, the US Backgammon Open and many more. The third anniversary of ISTAVDER, Istanbul backgammon club, will also be marked during the event.

During its three years of activity, ISTAVDER has established the national backgammon league with its own rating system and very strong players, local backgammon tournaments and the successful Cyprus Backgammon Open (in collaboration with the WBA) that has been attracting international backgammon stars for three years. Bob Wachtel has visited the last Cyprus Backgammon Open tournament, and wrote a series of articles where he describes the tournament background and the founding of ISTAVDER.

Entry fees are $200 ($185 + $15); satellite tournaments occur daily on 19:00 and 21:00 GMT, and there is a free satellite tournament for Silver and Gold VIP players on January 29th at 18:00.

The first satellite for the Play65/EBGT Grand Finale will be also on February 6th at 18:30 GMT. Entry fees are €160 (€150 + €10).

The satellite for the Play65/EBGT first stop - where both the WBA 10th Anniversary and the ISTAVDER 3rd Anniversary (and the opening of the Play65/EBGT season 2011) will be celebrated at the Green Park Hotel Bostanci in Istanbul, Turkey between February 25 and 27 - is on Saturday February 12, 18:30 GMT. Entry fees are only €15.

Also, don’t miss Bob Wachtel’s adventures in Cyprus and in Meribel. In his Cyprus Backgammon Open 3 parts report, you can read about the differences between "modern backgammon", the Euro-American version of the game played with the doubling cube, and the traditional backgammon, played leisurely everywhere in the Middle East and the revival of the Middle Eastern backgammon online and tournament halls. Read about the military bureaucracy the innocent backgammon tourist might face in the divided capital of Cyprus, and about the Turkish conquest of the international backgammon tournament. Plus, you can follow some interesting backgammon positions from the Mochy and Falafel match in the quarterfinals and confront a backgammon sportsmanship dilemma.

About a year ago, when Mary Hickey won the 2nd US Backgammon Open and the Play65 US Backgammon Open qualifier, she said that "It is a highly improbable sequence of events… winning eight matches in a row, not a likely occurrence on any given day or weekend." But, the unlikely occurrence had occurred again, as Mary Hickey won the US Backgammon Open again, in the third anniversary of the WBA/ABT event, held this time in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 14-17, 2011.
