My first time playing backgammon

Everyone needs a hoby, mine is backgammon

We couldn’t conceive life without having at least one hobby. Hobbies bring happiness, excitement and balance, they help us escape the boredom and exhaustion of every day routine. Therefore I chose backgammon as my special hobby.

My first moves

Since I was a little boy I have loved playing backgammon. Now I dedicate most of my free time to this board game. When I was six my father took me to a youth club. From that moment on, I trained with all my father’s friends. One of the best backgammon players saw my talent and predicted me a successful backgammon career :) And he was right, because I like backgammon best, as a means of escaping routine.

Play and forget

When I’m playing backgammon, I seem to leave all my problems far behind and never worry. And when I first won a game, I felt what ecstasy meant. I felt the taste of infinite power. When I lost a game, I got angry, but then I stopped and I analyzed my mistakes and I tried to learn something out of them. For example, the first time when I lost a game, I found it difficult to take all my pieces over the opponent’s ones, because they were spreaded at first and they could be blocked or captured by my opponent’s pieces. Backgammon is an easy game, with some very important strategic elements and I might learn to play it very quickly, even if sometimes tricky situations may appear and then I had to interprete carefully the rules. Discovering some easy tips As a beginner, I discovered some easy tips. For example, I didn’t know that I could redouble, when my opponent redoubled me. I found out that a match doesn’t last too much, so people usually play games, for example, of one to five lines.

A little about backgammon

Backgammon is generally played by two people. An alternate set of rules, however, allows any number; only two people actually roll the dice and move the counters, but they may have partners for consultation and advice. The checkers, black and white or in two other contrasting colors, also are called stones or men. They are set out on a board divided into halves—called the inner and outer tables—by a partition, or bar. The tables are marked by 12 elongated triangles called points; the object of play is to be the first to move all 15 stones from point to point into one’s own inner table, and then to continue moving or bearing them off the board. The winner scores a single game (or point value, as determined by the doubling cube) if the opponent has borne off at least one stone.

Present perspective

Now I am able to write down backgammon rules for those who don’t know anything about it. The stones are moved the exact number of points indicated by the number on two dice thrown from a dice cup. When doubles are thrown, four plays of the number on the dice are required. Plays must be made for both dice if possible; if either number thrown may be played, but not both, then the higher number thrown must be played. Finally I can say that my life would be boring without backgammon. What do you say? Do you share the same feelings or do you think I’m a geek?
